Congratulations to Isabella!
Carver Academy, Class of 2025
For Isabella, her early graduation is more than a milestone—it’s a moment of pride, perseverance, and possibility. A senior at Carver Academy, Isabella spent the last three years building her future while working through personal challenges. With the support of Communities In Schools of Chesterfield (CIS-C) Site Coordinator Mary Thompson, she walked across the stage with confidence, courage, and a vision for what comes next.
Isabella moved around a lot over the years, but Chester has become her home base. She’s the third oldest of seven siblings, and when not at school, she enjoys Minecraft, watching movies and shows, painting, and her newest hobby—sewing. “Learning how to sew was one of the accomplishments I’m most proud of this year,” she shared.
Another major achievement? Graduating in the top 10 of her class—ranked number three, no less—and being selected as a recipient of the Martha J. Frickert Scholarship through CIS-C.
Throughout her time at Carver, Isabella found a consistent, caring advocate in Ms. Thompson. Whether it was helping her family with grocery gift cards or bikes for her and her sister, or simply being a reliable presence she could talk to, Isabella said Ms. Th
ompson always made her feel comfortable and supported. “It’s nice having someone who’s always there for you, who you can go to whenever you need help,” she said.
One of their main goals together was improving attendance, which was difficult due to challenges at home and a lack of motivation. With encouragement—and a few incentives along the way—Isabella kept showing up, pushing through the mental barriers, and making steady progress.
This fall, Isabella will attend Tidewater Community College, where she plans to study residential interior design. “I knew I wanted to do something creative,” she said, and she’s excited about exploring internships and turning that passion into a career.
Looking ahead, Isabella dreams of finding herself, her people, and success in her field. With her determination and creativity—and the steady support of CIS-C—she’s well on her way.
