Mentoring is one of the most impactful opportunities we have to offer students and volunteers. This is the opportunity for a caring adult to have an authentic relationship with a child. All CIS Mentoring takes place at school, during school hours under the supervision of the CIS Site Coordinators. Mentors are asked to complete an application, attend training and receive on-going support from the Site Coordinators throughout their match. Mentors are matched to a student in grades K-12 based on which grade level the mentor chooses and which grade level’s schedule is most convenient.

At Communities In Schools of Chesterfield, we surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Our Site Coordinators work in 13 CCPS schools, alongside teachers and school staff, to remove barriers and help students reach their full potential.

Annually, we host an All Site Volunteer Month, during which we have volunteer projects across all of our school sites. We will update this page with the coming year’s All Site Volunteer Month projects  six weeks in advance. Check back for our April 2025 projects!

We are huge proponents of fostering agency in our students and their families – having a voice to advocate for yourself is a key part of success in academics and in life! We encourage the same action for our stakeholders. You can help us us share our story and speak up for the needs of students in Chesterfield. Keep up with our work by subscribing to our monthly eNewsletter and following our social media channels. Learn more about the challenges our students face and the difference CIS makes in our latest Impact Report.

Bus Tours offer a unique experience to learn first-hand what our impact looks like across our sites. Attendees are invited to join CIS staff as they visit a number of schools at the Elementary, Middle, and High school level, meeting the Site Coordinator at each school and exploring the programs they implement at their site and the relationships that they build with their students. A number of Bus Tours are offered each year, with both Fall and Spring options.
