Semaj was struggling academically at his home high school, and came to Carver College and Career Academy in the 10th grade for credit recovery. At Carver he was able to receive the credits needed to move on to the next grade level. When the pandemic hit, Semaj, like his peers, attended school virtually for last school year and part of the 2021-2022 academic year. Virtual learning was also a struggle for him because of the lack of structure. Semaj returned to Carver during the 2nd semester of his senior year to receive additional academic support. That is when his CIS Site Coordinator, Ms. Thompson, began working with him – she was able to provide the wrap-around services he needed to become reengaged in school and set up for graduation. Semaj worked so hard on his assignments and received all of the credits he needed in order to graduate this year! He plans to enter the workforce after graduation. Congratulations to Semaj!
