Join Communities In Schools of Chesterfield for Our 2021 Holiday Light Tour!

DATES: December 6th through December 19th

TIME: 5:30 pm until 10:00 pm

LOCATION: Hampton Park Neighborhood in Midlothian, VA

COST: Free!

CIS EXPRESS is a free, family-friendly holiday lights tour in Midlothian off Hull Street. In a town known for its tacky light tours, this is a great addition. Plus, it is a light tour with a mission! From the comfort and safety of your vehicle, you will visit fabulously decorated homes, through an easy to use guided tour on your phone. Each of the stops on the tour is connected to our mission and the ten schools we serve – for 11 stops total!

This year, we have added two live event nights! On Friday, December 10 or Saturday, December 18, you can enjoy our Cocoa and Cookie Café from 6:00-7:30 p.m. The first stop on our tour will include a free hot cocoa and cookie station, musical performances, a spot to take photos, and more! It will be the perfect, festive kick-off to your tour experience!

The event is free, and with registration, each participant will receive an electronic event package. Packages include instructions to download our guided tour app to use with mobile devices and other important event details. A printable copy of the tour with addresses and QR code directions will also be available. The tour can be driven any night over the event dates (December 6 – 19). When you are ready to start the tour, you will open the mobile application on your phone to begin. Along the route, participants will hear from members of our CIS team, students, families, and school staff, who will share more about the work and impact of CIS through short audio clips! A couple of fun videos will also be incorporated, which participants can tune into before, during or after the event to learn more about the interventions and services we provide to the 10,000 students we serve.

We’ll also include a scavenger hunt for little and big kids alike, the chance to win Family Fun Baskets, and other great prizes.

About Communities In Schools of Chesterfield

CIS of Chesterfield delivers wrap-around services in the 10 Chesterfield schools serve, all designed to achieve our mission: to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS services at each of our schools are implemented through dedicated Site Coordinators. Each school-based CIS Site Coordinator works in tandem with the principal and school staff, identifying the needs of the students and school and then connecting resources to meet those needs.

Currently, we deliver the CIS model at four elementary schools (Bellwood, Chalkley, Ettrick, and Falling Creek), three middle schools (Falling Creek, Manchester, and Salem Church) and three high schools (Carver College and Career Academy, LC Bird, and Meadowbrook).

The services provided look unique in each school, as each school has unique challenges. However the common thread is our belief in the Five Basics. Developed by CIS’s founder, these are essentials that every child needs to succeed: 1) a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult; 2) a safe place to learn and grow; 3) a healthy start and healthy future; 4) a marketable skill to use upon graduation; 5) a chance to give back to peers and community. The services provided are rooted in delivering these Five Basics. Examples of the interventions and services aligned with some of the Five Basics include: matching mentors with students for one-on-one relationships; partnering with Conexus to provide eye glasses for students; and career readiness programs that equip students with skills to use after graduation.
