Our Continued Response

How We Responded:

When schools closed, we rapidly pivoted to respond to immediate needs during the crisis – ensuring that the more than 9,000 vulnerable students we serve had what they needed.

Beginning March 15th, we worked with our partners and

CCPS to:

  • deliver weekly groceries to 375 students and families in-need through a partnership with Bridging RVA.

  • connect regularly with students by phone and through home visits to coordinate wrap-around services, monitor student progress, and serve as a resource for teachers and staff.

  • host virtual counseling groups, book clubs, student leader events, and more.

  • implemented a Pen Pal program to continue mentoring

  • hosted a supply drive to connect our students with necessary household goods, academic supplies, and enrichment activities

  • connect over 400 families who were financially impacted by COVID-19 with family crisis funds in partnership with CEF, Robins Foundation, and CCPS.

  • celebrated our 2020 graduates! It was difficult not to have the big ceremonies and celebrations, but our high school Site Coordinators made sure that their CIS students felt honored for their big accomplishment, through home-delivery celebration kits, yard signs and 5 CIS Scholarships!

How We Continue to Respond

We are excited that, for the first time, CIS of Chesterfield will provide intentional summer support and engagement! To learn more about what that will look like, click on the “Summer with CIS” button below.

With the ongoing pandemic and recent decision for a virtual return to school in fall, we are working closely with CCPS to ensure our students are supported this summer and are ready for a successful 2020-2021 academic year.

We also have some great volunteer opportunities and ways for community members to support related to our new and continuously evolving work. Check out the “Volunteer & In-kind Needs” button below.
