A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
February is all about love — and at Communities In Schools of Chesterfield, we’re celebrating the heart of our work: our students and the people who support them!
This month, we honor our Site Coordinators during Site Coordinator Appreciation Week and share our new Impact Report, featuring key highlights that show the difference your support makes every day.
Looking ahead, don’t miss our final CIS Bus Tour or the I See You Simulation, both giving you a front-row seat to the challenges and triumphs of our students.
Thanks for showing up for our students with love!
With heartfelt gratitude,

CIS ECONOMIC MOBILITY STUDY
A recent Atlantic article, “Closing the Gap in American Schools,” highlights what Communities In Schools has long known to be true: students can’t succeed academically if their basic needs go unmet. The article explores how community school models, like CIS, help students overcome barriers such as food insecurity, housing instability, and mental health challenges so they can fully show up and learn.
Drawing on new research, the piece shows that CIS supports lead to improved attendance, fewer disciplinary issues, higher graduation rates, and even increased earnings later in life. Most importantly, it underscores the power of trusted adults in schools who build relationships, connect families to resources, and meet students where they are. It’s a powerful reminder that when we support the whole child, we help close opportunity gaps and create lasting change.
